Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Hon. Gail Teixeira M.P., attended the Peace Corps Guyana Staff Retreat
Today, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Hon. Gail Teixeira M.P., attended the Peace Corps Guyana Staff Retreat and facilitated a working lunch session titled “Sustaining Partnerships for Guyana’s Future”.
The session focused on ongoing and projected Government programmes and initiatives, and highlighted the role that international partners like the Peace Corps play in the process.
Minister Teixeira reflected that Guyana has shared excellent working realtionships with international partners since gaining independence. Now, as Guyana matures as a democratic nation, these relationships are more clearly defined, and are intended to build capacity at the local level, promote investment, protect human rights, and ultimately create equal opportunities and equitable access to resources for all Guyanese.
This engagement comes at a crucial time as the US Peace Corps plan to reintroduce volunteers across key sectors in Guyana. Minister Teixeira reminded the Peace Corps team, which is predominatly Guyanese, that “this is Guyana’s time” and every person must play a role in cultivating a sense of pride in being Guyanese.
